Conversations overheard on a pink fridge.

Pixie: Oh dear!
Maurice: Well, I wonder if She feels at all upset that the production team thought that a Japanese woman who made clothes for her cats so that they could dress up to look like mice or princesses was more interesting than Her books?
Pixie: Oh dear!
Maurice: And what was all that talk about humans 'owning' cats?
Pixie: Oh dear!
Maurice: Maybe it is best that we don't have a tv.
Max: You did look pretty handsome though in that very first shot.
Kiffer: Blink and you would have missed it!
Pixie: Don't be so divisive, Kiffer. You hogged all the limelight in the Financial Times, let Maurice have his 0.15 second of fame.
Maurice: Do you think She is going to sulk?
Kiffer: I don't care what She does so long as She doesn't dress me up as an ******* mouse!
Pixie: Oh dear!

On things

She tells us that we are on TV this evening, but we do not know what a TV is, so for now we are on the fridge.

Oh dear!

Kiffer: Seems that we weren't exploited after all. She has just had an email to say that we have been edited out of the program.
Pixie: Ah well. Maybe it's for the best. And she was such a lovely lady, Joanna, don't you think?
Maurice: If you like humans.
Pixie: Erm...... Oh dear..... I think if you read the email it says that they have edited out the interview with Her. They still have us in. Walking. Being ginger.
Kiffer: She's not going to like that. You know what She's like. Just 'cause She hasn't got ginger fur She gets jealous. Big time.
Pixie: Oh dear.
Kiffer: I think the proverbial poo could be about to hit the metaphorical fan.

Neither a pet nor exploited.

Kiffer: Listen to this.

Joanna Lumley: Catwoman

Animal lover Joanna Lumley is turning cat detective, to explore the unique relationship we have with our feline friends in a brand new, two-part series for ITV1.

As she travels the world, Joanna meets the people who have a unique relationship with cats. She explores how such an unlikely partnership first began and why the cat stirs such conflicting emotions in us.

On her journey, Joanna find out how cats can be used as therapy, for shameless commercial purposes, uncovers the barbaric ways we have tortured them over the past 1000 years and explores the effects our breeding methods are having. She also meets the cats themselves, from domestic tabbys and show cats, to wild cheetahs and the lions who have been kept as pets.

Joanna’s travels include Egypt, Japan, Namibia, North America, Belize and Mexico as she seeks to find out why cats stir such different responses in different cultures.

From the Land of the Pharaohs where cats run wild in the streets, to the Far East where cats have clothes specially made for them, Joanna uncovers the history behind how these wild creatures have gradually became the number one pet in the Western world.

An ITV Studios production for ITV1.

By shameless commercial purposes do you think they mean us?

Pixie: Do you feel exploited?
Kiffer: No, I feel very comfortable and well fed. But I wish She would stop pushing paint around and come for a walk.
Pixie: I don't feel like a pet either. Neither exploited nor pet. What do you think Maurice?
Maurice: I think the builders have been here for a long time and they are a bit like pets and I heard them muttering about being exploited.

Starlight on a gray day

So, it happened like this. Many moons ago She had an email from a tv company who were making a program about cats. They wanted to know if we would walk with their presenter. They wanted to know if we would walk for cameras. She said, "I don't know. I will ask them." So She asked us and we said we might and She phoned them, and passed our message on.
Next the Lucy lady came. The sun shone on a blue sky day and we walked up the hill and charmed the Lucy lady. Away She went and a date was made, but then the presenter lady had to go and have tea with the Queen. Imagine, turning down walking with us to go and have tea with the Queen. Well, a cat can look at a king they say, though why one would want to we can't imagine. Surely a better saying would be that a king can look at a cat? Anyway, we forgave her, and another date was made, this time the Queen had tea with someone else.
On Wednesday morning the sun did not shine but the lady came, and brought cameras and sound, lots of people and they all went into Her studio and we were invited in too. Now, usually if we sneak in to give Her a hand She chases us out and rude words are spoken, so imagine our delight when She was all welcoming words and cuddles and treats.
She talked a lot of nonsense about painting and books and we prowled around and had treats and walked over books and looked bright and orange and beautiful for the cameras. And the lady was beautiful and elegant and feline with a voice as smooth as milk.
Then after a while it was time to walk, up the green lane and over the hill, slow walking, Maurice was shy, but at the top of the hill we sat together in the shadow of the wind. And though it was gray the view was beautiful. And though it was gray the violets shone in the grass and the gorse glowed golden. And though it was gray the presenter lady shone like a rainbow star. Because she is. A star.

And they tell us that the program, all about cats, is called Catwoman and will be on television in September.
