In the warmth of the evening house the reader, who was also an artist, read about the writer, glass in hand, and wondered about how intertwined might be the lives of the writer in the novel and the writer of the novel. The cats were all suitably unimpressed by the convoluted sentence. Maurice draped a casual tail across Her shoulder and took a closer look.

Ah yes, reading with cats--or doing anything with cats--they somehow seem to disrupt the intended task.
It is challenging for Her to read a book with so much help, isn't it?
So, Maurice, would you please make a comment on the book she read ?
Thank you boys to share with us the lovely photos your (father) took.
Love you all.
VĂ©ronique
Looks like reading hour at my house, too..... what is it about cats, laps, books, and the flicking of tails...
Not a lot of reading done then!

PS can't believe word verification igingi!
Well done darlings, its amazing how you always manage to position yourselves on the exact bit of print that is being read, even when its a broadsheet newspaper spread out on the floor.
Love the photos. I have a cat that does that to me while I am cross stitching lol.
Looks like Maurice is very smug and pleased with himself...She has stopped reading and he is once again the center of attention. And we're betting there's more than a little bit of ginger fur in that wine glass.
In my family they are known as Hampers. A grey model is practising 'Hampering' as I type by rubbing his whisker pads on my hands on the keyboard and head butting and purring mightily.
yeh....I'm sure lots of things we are trying to do are not the most comfortable of places to park their bodies...but, they do it anyway don't they?... just to be in the middle of everything... catsss.. gotta love 'emmm
I love your blog and read it regularly, I used to have a ginger darling myself the image of your kitty on the right of Hannah, he was called Tishy - after Titian the artist - your photos are so superb as is your whole blog and you really should think of publishing it into a book - I just have Magic now who is my rescue cat - she has been with me a month now
Ok an interruption, but what charming interruptions!
And what casual tail,
and what tender paw
Wins you without fail
And Maurice is the star!
Ginger, Ginger on the lap,
What hope of reading symmetry
Or anything else come to that?
But he really does look so beautiful there as do the rest! Hmm, maybe it's an art composition - Artist with cats or Harmony in Ginger and blue!
My husband had to study for work this weekend and was reading upstairs. He called to me to come look. There was pure-white Feather balancing on the book in his lap, wobbling in an unbalanced position, looking pitiful. She won. It was nap time for the both of them.
All these shots are wonderful and the last one is a classic!
I love to help with reading too. Especially if I can sit on the book.
Cats are in general avid readers. The Lair Cats prefer reading in bed though, which might have something to do with space and comfortability. They are not particularly fond of paperbacks, maybe because paperbacks don't fold out as easy as hardbacks.
Lately I've had less competition reading the morning paper. Her Supreme Catesty always considered the morning paper to be hers alone. Since she joined dragonprincess and Li'lkitty in setting up a Lair of their own, the time I spend reading the morning paper has significantly been reduced.
They clearly were not interested in the words...they all just wanted to distract you and get your complete attention! xxx
maurice is Pleased. great photos!
Just love it... a typical cat thing..... my feline tends to sit on my computer desk right in front of my screen...and if I should dare to move my fingers nimbly across the keyboard then said feline thinks I am potential prey.....and this is where he sits until I physically have to move him... only for him to jump right back in front of the screen again... its only the lure of some food that prises him away from his favourite annoy person spot!!with a satisfied purrrrr and a look that tells me... I'll be back!! but I love him with all my heart and wouldn't have it any other way!!
Am I the only person who is desperate to know what the book is? I trust Her recommendations completely, after she said she spent the morning in bed reading Wolf Hall. C'mon Jackie, what is it, and is it worth reading?
You guys really are something else.
That couch sure gets a lot of use. Maybe you should look into a double-decker version for the Holidays.
She says that the book is called Last Night in Twisted River and is by John Irving. Brilliant. That man writes so good he could almost be a cat!
These are wonderful photos, but after reading all the comments about cat interruptions, perhaps I should be glad that Bailey is contented to just be in the same room as me. (But honestly I could really do with a bit of cat-cuddling!)
Yes yes yes, I am so happy that I have found your superb blog. Your photos are extraordinary and I love them!

Perhaps the issue to be communicated to Cats is that no bookmarks, whether paws, tails, or torsos, are necessary while a book is actively being read.
oh pretty kitties! Karen of So and Sew life blog just told me about yours!
My Murphy kitty says hi!
This reminds me of me, as I hold a book in my lap, a newspaper, type on my computer or fall asleep.
Your gingers are the very essence of orangeness and so beautiful.
