Bright moon and the windsong night

Tonight is the night of the brightest moon this year, but outside a storm is blowing, cold wind and rain that bites as it is thrown from the sky like tiny arrows. We wait to see if the storm cat will blow through in search of other pleasure, but for now he rattles at doors and windows and rushes in waves over the roof tiles of our low Welsh cottage until we feel like we are in a boat in a storm at sea. So fast and furious, so cold.
Maybe the bright light of the moon will burn through the thick dark cloud. In the meantime we will rest and curl by the fire and wait and listen to the windsong.

  1. Where ever we have lived [and always with cats] the cats have seen it their duty to warn us of impending storms. They rush and tumble through the house, wild-eyed and bristle-tailed, attacking "things" in the corners that our human eyes don't see. When the wind and the rain or snow come in hours later they look at us as though to say, "We warned you!" And then they are content to snuggle with me under a quilt with a good book and a mug of tea--all calm and domesticated.

  2. I am enjoying this moon as well, admiring it even though it will outshine this weekend's meteor shower...

I wonder if the cats will take advantage of its brightness to further explore their new home, the garden and fields and woods about us...

You Three Ginger Cats have had a hand influencing me to give them a safe haven!!

  4. the moon was especially gorgeous on this side of the atlantic as well -- it started out pink, glowed to yellow, then settled on silver. and huge-huge-huge in the rain-washed, crisp-cold, deep-blue sky.

silly beau ran out and stayed out all night the night before in cold-wind-rain. silly beau. came home in the morning and ate and s-l-e-p-t on the blanket by window.

  5. I saw the moon yesterday morning. It was the roundest I'd seen it in a year...

Today we've got white-out conditions here by the canyon...winds around 28mph...gusting to 40mph, with temps at around 10 above zero. Windchills tonight are expected to drop to 40below...

I've been feeding the crows and sparrows like mad...lots of roasted peanuts, cheese, seeds, and for body-warming, quick carbs...lotsa wheat bread.

But still, I'm sure many will not survive the weekend.
