Absence makes the house grow colder.

As the moon diminishes we have sat and shivered. She has been away and left us with only a Deb to come and feed and talk to us. No fire, no warmth at all. Then She breezes back in all bags and chatter about having been to Bath. Well, all we can say is, She doesn't look clean.
But now the fire is lit and glows like a quiet dragon. Dogs are home and happy to be so, children are snoozing their morning snooze before rising to chaos of getting ready for school, always a small miracle that they make it out of the house at the same time every morning. It is good to have their noise back. And soon we will forgive Her and welcome Her back. But not yet.

  1. Do the Ginger Darlings sit with their backs to you when they are unhappy with you? Bailey does that and makes his feelings thoroughly known without saying a word.

  2. If the cats choose to sit in the same room as me then yes, for a while I face a wall of ginger backs. But they always come round, usually around supper time!

  4. No one shows disdain as explicitly as a disgruntled cat--or several of them. We face a battery of disapproval, followed by hours of naughty, attention-getting activity when we have been away over night.
Returning to a chilly house and unhappy cats is not a great "welcome home."
How cold does it get during a Welsh winter--I'm basing my ideas on Brother Cadfael plodding through the snow and wind.
Here in Wyoming the nights have been below zero [F] and the entry of our house has to be curtained at night. Thankfully, the cats do not object to forays to the entry for use of the litter box!

Reminds me of our first cat who used to sit with a distinctly disapproving look on her face... yes, until supper time. Funny that!

  6. Ah, yes...the old "if I'm not looking at you, you can't see me" ploy. But a rattle of the crunchie box works wonders!

  7. Do not bite the hand that feeds you, ye ginger beasts!

PS today's verification word: rolosin... what a great name for a ginger cat!

  8. How cold is December in Wales? [My only point of reference is Brother Cadfael plodding through snow and storms.]
Cats have such a deep love of warm places--and such disdain for those who go away. When we leave ours overnight, we are greeted with accusing remarks, baleful glares--followed by several hours of outrageously naughty behavior.
She does love you, Ginger Darlings, or there wouldn't be a neighbor coming to check on you, there wouldn't be sheepskins and warm quilts.
