Fingernail moon in a dark dark sky

At five am a fingernail moon and stars prick holes in the dark night sky. The wind is falling away again. Inside the warm house the cats drip and draped ginger warmth over soft cushions. The dogs curl and dream in their baskets, waiting for morning. Kiffer, who loves the night, is out hunting the hedgebanks.
Pixie breathes easier, face clean and eyes bright.

  1. Love that picture of Pixie's paws curled around the hand that holds her. Lovely picture of you too Jackie. Great to hear you on the radio too.

Kiffer the Hedgebank Hunter! Now there's an image... out with his ginger sou'wester and his eyes like moons... under the hedges... watching and waiting...

Mum used to tell me that in India, the fingernail moon was called Shiva's Moon and that he wore it in his hair.

  11. I hope the mouth sores mend quickly, so Pixie can get back to the business of eating a hearty meal before going on a walk-about.

  13. Hmm, thanks to Moonroot, I've also nominated you (and the three) for an award. Apologies to the cats that the award isn't something that can either be slept on or eaten.
