Rosie's walk

We left the cats at home, eating supper in the kitchen, and walked over the hill to the place where the path wanders through heather. The smell was like honey.

In places the path was not even wide enough for a puppy to walk....

..but luckily I have been taking levitation lessons from Maurice.

Further along I found the wall where the cats pose for photographs, tumbled stones white with lichens and softened by moss, ancient, beautiful.
I am the puppy and I too can walk on the wall.

We Three Walking in the Wild Wind

It has been a week since we have walked. Today the wild wind cat is howling over the hill, a cold north wind. It blows through fur and flattens ears to the head. But we walk anyway. We are not afraid of the wind cat.

On top of the hill we sheltered in a warm and sunny place. Clouds raced overhead. The sun shone and our fur kept us warm. The wind rushed and rattled through the bones of the heather flowers and sighed like the sea in the long golden grass.

Pixie and Bella talked of things, of this and that.

Then home, back out into the wild wind, through bracken and grass, leaving the warmth and shelter of stone.

Elmo attempts to levitate

Maurice: Nope. I think that is falling, not levitating.
Pixie: Six out of ten for effort. Never mind 'Mo. Keep trying.
Elmo: Listen you two! A minute ago I was doing a front-paw-stand! This is just so impressive even I am amazed at myself.

Elmo's lessons

Maurice: How is Elmo getting on with his levitation practice?
Pixie: Not well.
Maurice: What do you think the problem is?
Pixie:Worms.
Maurice: Pardon!
Pixie: Too heavy. Got worms. Bit lazy too.
Maurice: I thought She was going to do something about that.
Pixie: Well, you know what She is like. Stomping about in a bad mood, cursing and talking about "deadlines" and "haven't got time" and "not enough hours in the day" and such. Anyway, you know what happened last time she tried to worm him. He bit through Her finger.
Maurice: Love me, love my worms. Anyway, what is an "hour"? Do you think if we caught one for her she would be pleased?

Growing up

In a house on a hill near Manchester, England, a kitten sleeps and dreams, of learning to levitate.

Maurice taught me how to do this....

Soon we will not be needing wings to catch the night time mice that squeak in the sky. Not jumping, but levitating.
