Escape of the wild strawberry plant

Gardening is not one of the strong points of She who paints, but one year She bought a small plant in a pot, wild strawberries, tiny, medieval, like something from the manuscript paintings that She likes. It was for a book She was working on.
The strawberry plant escaped the pot and found that it liked the wildness of the garden. It threaded its way around until it became a small bank of wild strawberries, an illuminated border of tiny flowers that promise the smallest, sweetest fruit in high summer. So delicate a red fruit with a taste that fills the heart and makes children smile.

Such bliss on the Ginger Darling's face. Maybe she's dreaming of strawberries and cream -- well cream anyway.

Wow, how lucky you are to have wild strawberries!

That was a very smart plant to escape the pot. The earth must have smelled most welcoming to it and now it is rewarding your Mom :)

In the forest around Vukovar (Croatia), where I grew up, these strawberries would grow. We'd pick them sometimes and I still haven't forgotten the flavour. Every strawberry tasted after those, tasted much of nothing.

You can't have a garden without strawberries. Don't wild ones have a lot more intense flavour. Lovely. x

We have wild strawberries growing rampant in our yard too. We leave them for the squirrels, birds and chipmunks to enjoy!
