The day after the vets.......
........She let me roam where I wanted in Her studio. Even let me walk through the paint and help Her sign some books. And the day after the x-ray I glow like fire, sparkle and shine.
Oh Jackie! Maurice is so very loved and lucky to have you to care for him. This situation is much the same as the one we are faced with now with our Tabbygail. She has a tumor(s) either on her left lung or on her thymus gland. When her breathing became labored like Maurice's did, I took her to the vet, and the x-rays were so shadowed that all we could really define was that her heart had shifted to the right side of her chest and her lungs were filled with fluid. The vet did a chest tap, and found there were tumor cells in the fluid. Long story short, Tabbygail is not a candidate for surgery, and I won't subject her to chemo or radiation. With the vet and our TCM practitioner/acupuncturist working together, we have decided to manage this with a medicinal mushroom formula (I mix it with baby food meats), which has been shown in some studies to shrink tumors and fight cancer. She is getting chest taps as needed to relieve the pleural effusion and ease her breathing. This week, she has shown much improvement -- less fluid build up and her heart has seemed to shift back towards its normal position in her chest. The vet was very pleased. Of course, we still take things day to day, but her quality of life, at this point, is pretty good.
I apologize for this lengthy comment, but I wanted to let you know about Tabby's situation and thought the information might be of some value in Maurice's case. If you are so inclined to investigate this kind of therapy, I could put you in touch with our TCM practitioner by email. She treats both humans and animals.
I wish the very best outcome for your sweet Maurice.
So sorry to hear Maurice is unwell, he is a beautiful boy and loved well by his human-mum. Enjoy every day and hope the steriod injection works its magic. Hugs Jx
Dearest fellow ginger one, When the boss read about you she went all quiet and gave me a big hug - I know that means me and my tabby sister should send you our warmest purriest wishes for a long time walking with your ginger brothers and sister - and your one who paints a bit and that Rosie thing that you live with.
We and our animals are one- we respect and treat them as we would want to be-I have followed your blog for a while now and know that you are a great friend and loved one to your furred creatures-you will share his feelings and know what to do--as will he-you are both very lucky to have each other-I smile through tears-Angie
What a sad shock for you Jackie. Some years ago we lost a beautiful long haired tabby to this disease. Reading your post brought it all back. Our boy was purring and enjoying his garden to the last. Wishing Maurice love and many more good days to enjoy with you and his ginger family.
I know you would be ok. The vet told my mom I had only 4 months to live as I have lymphoma of the spleen but I am now doing rather well if I say so myself. I am 13 years old to boot. Be brave. My heart goes out to all of you.
Jackie: has your vet considered the possibility Maurice has heartworm? I had not known until today that cats can get heartworm as well as dogs. But it is harder to diagnose in cats.
Maurice, you are indeed one brilliant dayglow orange man cat...and very well loved, too! Make the most of her tenderness...paws in paint is good, so is begging for extra treats!
Jackie, I'm so very sorry to hear about beautiful, handsome Maurice's diagnosis. I think I read that you'll find out more today, so I wish you both well for that.
I have a beautiful, small box constructed of card made from grasses, rushes and leaves and I keep it next to a piece of rose quartz on my altar at home. This is a healing box and I hope that you and Maurice don't mind that I've 'put' you both in there. Every evening I light the candle that's held within the crystal and ask for healing and support for you - and for all in the house of ginger - along with other animals and people who are also named in the box (Tabbygail included). I don't know what form the healing will take or what the outcome will be - that's not up to me - but I do trust something good happens from this.
You have a wise and loving teacher in Maurice. Let him show you how to be as you walk this path together. And remember that agonising though it is to let go of an animal in their physical form, they never leave you. They just change form - rather like the Snow Leopard.
Peace be with you Maurice and to your Mama too. I pray you enjoy every minute of your ginger time together.I just spoke about losing an angel kitty to cancer on Oct. 7th on my blog. Purrs, Tankene Ice Mist If you wish I invite you to Check out my blog: tailsoftankene.blogspot.com

Maurice,
ReplyDeleteI've heard that walking through paint and helping to sign books extends our lives. This means that you, glowing one, are ahead of me 2-0.
