The land of badgers

Early twilight walking, we go to see if the badgers are about yet. Here the world is so overgrown with green that the badgers have made tunnels through the bracken. We sniff and rub against the bracken stems to leave a message for the striped bears when they wake. We have been here.

We look deep into the badgers home. New straw shows that cubs are here too. But all is silent. We can almost hear them dreaming of the night to come.

Pixie climbs the twilight fence post and looks across the sea where a distant lighthouse flashes a pulsing beat.

  2. This is the most beautiful blog. The gingers are gorgeous and the land is to dream of. And your stories about the cats and people and animals are so wonderful. It's like entering a fairy tale only it's real. Long live the Ginger Cats!

  4. Be careful out there on your prowls. We don't have badgers here but I have heard they are pretty cranky.

  5. These cats are so beautiful. They look like true hunters. I also say to be careful. Cats are wonderful pets and so loving. This is the most beautiful story about three cats.

  6. We are careful. Once when we were prowling in the middle of the day a badger came out to see who it was purring outside. But he was so startled by our bright beauty that he ran down into another entrance of the city of badgers. We have met badgers, and foxes. We walk on the wild side. we fear only snakes. And we have met snakes!

  7. So cat who are like Indiana Jones then... as I recall he didn't like snakes either... and he also met a lot of them.

But then he wasn't as beautiful as a cat and like most humans, clawless and fangless too. I can imagine a badger being startled by the bright beauty of a fire-cat.

  8. Amazing how animals recognize degrees of danger. My cats coexist with raccoons, will walk past them almost touching. Neither animal resents or is even interested in the other.

  9. We passed by your way briefly last week on holiday. We kept a close eye out for the Gingers, but sadly we didn't catch a glimpse.

Beautiful place, though, so I'm sure we will return.

  10. I have never seen a badger, not even in a zoo. Of course I've seen them on TV but that's not the same as in the flesh. I once saw my old indoor/ outdoor cat go prancing across the patio after a possum, clearly saying "Come play with me." Fortunately the possum did not cooperate. They have sharp teeth and look like very large shaggy rats.

  13. These are lovely photos all. You gingers are so photogenic; you probably already know this. That last photo of the cat on a fence post was very "evening on the moors" evocative.
    Thanks.
